Previous Reaction: Never heard of them
Post Listen: Great harmonies, up and down song quality
Will I Listen Again: Yep, especially to "In the Pines"
Harriet's Response: "Oh yeah baby rock and roll"
Teddy's Response: Silence
Until I read this book, I'd never heard of these guys. But they were tops. I'm not really a fan of country and bluegrass - that could be summarised as "I really hate the twangy crappy country" and "some bluegrass is ok". (More bluegrass I love later - #890 if you really care). Harriet listened to this one with me and agreed that the harmonies are great but it's a little too country. The stand out track is this old standard made famous by Lead Belly (there's no video on this, it's just the audio):
And later covered by a band on album #747 (the Louvin Brothers is much better than that version)
I'll definitely listen to this one again, especially "In the Pines". There's no more Louvin Brothers in the 1001 Albums, which I think is a bit disappointing - I'll have to look up some more of their catalogue.
